It’s no secret that as a labor & delivery nurse, you’re a hero every single day. You apply your clinical knowledge and experience. You act as friend-supporter-coach to your patients. And, because you’ve got PeriCALM, you use smart technology to help make sure your moms and babies get the best care possible.
Unfortunately, much of your heroic effort goes unrecognized because no one that’s not routinely involved in OB quite understands what it takes — the happy moments, the anxious ones, and the few-and-thankfully-far-between sad times — to do what you do every single day.
Now’s your chance to celebrate, to share your stories, to applaud for each other, to be recognized by others for all the great work you do.

In the middle of the night I had a patient with Cervidil. She, upon admission and for 2 hours after insertion of Cervidil, was on the monitor showing a category 1 strip. We took her off the monitor to get some sleep. After a few hours of sleep, she had to use the restroom. Instead of just spot checking FHT (as was standing order) I decided to get a short strip and see if she was contracting. When I hooked her up the the monitor, the baby’s heartrate starting decelerating in the 80’s. After intrauterine resuscitation we ended up taking the patient down to c-section. The provider on-call was able to pull up Peri-Calm at her home and watch it with me. This patient wasn’t even in labor, but something wasn’t right. The baby APGAR’d 9-9. Thank God I decided to put the monitor on.
